Yesterday....

Since it is morning and I haven't done much yet today, this post is going to be all about yesterday. I was able to upload some pics as well, so you can see some of those too!

First, some pictures of my dorm:

his is my little corner in the room

This is from the doorway. That's April on the bed in her room:

This is our kitchen area:

This is the outside of the building we are staying and have our classes as well as some students from my group:

Yesterday we went on a tour around the city of St. Petersburg and this was the bus that took us:

This was our first stop, Smolny Cathedral. It is really beautiful and was the first all girls school.

This is me and Meg outside of the Cathedral:

This is the Aurora. It was the ship that signaled the seige of the Palace during the Winter Revolution which brought about the downfall of the Romanov family.

This is the Hermitage. The second largest museum in the world. It is in one of the Romanov palaces. Actually five of them I think. We didn't go in it yesterday, but it is in the city. The river is the Neva.

Along the river:

And this is the church of Spilt Blood:

And actually, so far this is the only church that looks like this. Most of them do have the onion shaped dome, but as to color and style, this one is unique.

Today is the Peter and Paul fortress and I'm excited about that. The last Romanovs are burried there as well as many other Czars. I also still have more pictures, but I don't have time to finish uploading them. But the some more of the things I've already posted can be seen at www.flickr.com/photos/lils_photos

Well Lydia - you and that camera seem to doing just fine together and you haven't even started your photography class yet. Your room seems nice and peanut butter abounds! (grin) I can tell that you are enjoying the start of this adventure and I'm sure every site you visit will hold special memories. I sure hope you can print this blog off so you don't have to rewrite for your travel journal. Love ya! JuJu

The pictures are wonderful. What magnificent buildings - so ornate and colorful. Your rooms look very compact. What is the weather like? You look pretty well clad for June.

Love you.

Lydia!!!!
You're giving us all a great documentary! I just love all the pictures you took...and, since everyone has mentioned the peanut butter (which also made me laugh), I am curious to know whether or not it was bought in Russia. I've heard that Europeans refuse to touch the stuff--but what about there? :)

You're sounding fabulous. Hope today is fun. I missed you at church yesterday---it wasn't the same -- no not all.... Sending much love,
smitchell

Wow, looks like you are having fun already. Great pics too - especially the last one! Your dorm rooms looks pretty typical, which is good. At least it's not bunk beds!
